AADAC Youth Treatment Services

The AADAC Youth Services Centre offers a wide range of substance abuse treatment services for adolescents (aged 12 to 17), and their families. Treatment options and support services include:

• On-going individual or family counselling.
  
• Weekly support and counselling groups for adolescents and family members.
  
• The ACTION Program, an intensive three-month day-treatment experience which includes on-site school, and residential support when necessary.
  
• Weekly drug and alcohol information sessions for adolescents.
  
• A lending library of books, resource publications and videos.
  
• After-care counselling.
  

How to Access Youth Treatment Services

Youth can seek assistance on their own initiative, and be assured of confidentiality. However, parents are encouraged to accompany their adolescent whenever possible. Schools, agencies or other professionals can also make referrals, and may accompany the youth to assist in engagement and treatment planning. Access to all treatment services, including ACTION Program, always starts with an assessment by an AADAC counsellor. Based on the assessment, each adolescent is matched to a service appropriate to his or her level of need. Counselling, support, and educational resources are available to family members even if their adolescent is currently not seeking help.

Walk-in: You can use walk-in times to meet briefly with a counsellor to discuss your concerns and commence plans. Walk-in times are: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.

Appointments by phone: You can phone to talk to an intake counsellor, and decide to book an appointment for an initial interview. Telephone intake counsellors are available Monday to Wednesday 8:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Thursday to Friday until 4:30 p.m.

Information Series: If you are a youth referred by a school or the Justice system, or are just wanting more information about your drug and alcohol use, you can come directly to one of the Drug and Alcohol Information Sessions. This is a four part series offered every Tuesday at 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Parent Support Group: if you are a parent, guardian or adult family member of an adolescent who is harmfully involved with drugs or alcohol, you can drop in any Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. to attend the Parent Support Group, or phone to book a counselling session with a family counsellor.

Library: The lending library of books, resource materials and videos is open Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call our receptionist for further information.
