As soon as you quit smoking you will start to feel better. Even better, you will be taking a huge step towards being healthy for your entire life.

  • 20 minutes after quitting, your blood pressure will be back to normal.
  • 8 hours after quitting, the carbon monoxide levels in your blood will be back to normal.
  • 1 day after quitting, your risk of having a heart attack decreases.
  • 3 months after quitting, your lungs will be more efficient and your circulation will be improved.
  • 1 year after quitting, your risk of having a heart attack will be about half of what it would have been if you had kept smoking.
  • 10 years after quitting, your risk of dying from lung cancer will be about half of what it would have been if you had kept smoking.
  • 15 years after quitting, your risk of having a heart attack will be the same as that of a person who has never smoked.
