Smoking is Expensive |

Buying cigarettes costs a lot of money. Let’s do some math. If you smoke one pack a day, at $10 per pack, that’s $70 a week, about $300 a month, and $3,650 a year. Do you know anyone who has a part-time job? Mows lawns or shovels sidewalks for money? How much would they have to do to earn $300 every month? Think what you might buy for that kind of money. For a week’s smoking, you could buy three CDs or two DVDs. For a month’s smoking, you could buy a Playstation 2 or Xbox and a couple of games. For a year’s smoking, you could buy two purebred puppies and all their food for a year or a really good mountain bike and all the gear to go with it! Smoking costs Canada and Canadian businesses money too: about $17 billion a year in health care, fire damage, extra sick days, time lost to smoke breaks, higher life insurance premiums and special smoking areas for smokers. © 2001-2007 AADAC - Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission Copyright and Disclaimer Statement | Privacy Statement |
